What Type of Protein Do Supreme Peanut Butter Pretzel Twist Bars Use?

These bars use the Supreme Protein Blend which includes whye protein isolate, whey protein concentrate and milk protein isolate.  In addition this bars has a peanut butter protein coating which includes a mixture of ingredients like palm kernel oil, peanut flour, peanuts, and milk protein isolate.

What We Like About Peanut Butter Pretzel Twist Bars

Taking a bite of this mo’ fo!  Biting into this Pretzel Twist bar instantly sent a shiver of dieter’s guilt creeping up my spine.  There’s no way a bar this tasty can be good for you…can it?!?

This protein bar has a great texture, this peanuts, pretzels and peanut butter protein complement the chewy caramel and soft protein core.

We like the Supreme Protein Blend because it doesn’t have a whole lot of weird stuff in it.  Whey concentrate, whey protein isolate, and milk protein isolate.  Simple, high quality protein for muscle growth.  The Peanut Butter Pretzel Twist bar also has 30 grams in each bar.  That can really help you when you’re trying to get that 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight (especially for your heavier weightlifters).

What We Don’t Like

What’s the deal with Supreme LLC and saturated fat?  Chomping into this bar is like heaven.  Flipping the bar over to get a glimpse of the label, however, is like hell.  I clutched my heart when I saw it: 18 grams of fat, 12 OF THOSE GRAMS ARE SATURATED!  That’s a ridiculous amount of saturated fat for a protein bar.  I was so hurt because the protein bar was so tasty. On the flip side, looking at the overall numbers it’s right at 39% of the calories coming from fat. That’s not good either, but there are protein bars with significantly higher fat calories percentages.
This bar has 32 grams of carbs, too.  This is a weak point for us.  We would say we’re starting to bend based on the whole net carbs argument, but Supreme’s PBP Twist bar makes no mention of net carbs.  This is a bit because it’s billed as a “Carb Conscious” protein bar. I guess you get what you see on the label.  I really wonder how much of the net carb thing is a ploy since some companies mention it while other don’t.  Hmm.

I looked at the sugar content and let out a “Woo Hoo” because I only saw 6 grams of sugar, then lowering my eyes to the next line, I realized it’s because there are also 22 grams of sugar alcohol.  Dammit!

How much do Supreme Bars Cost?

Over at bodybuilding.com, you will pay just under $2.40 cents for one bar or just under $27.00 for a box of 12 bars.

How do they taste?

You know if we mention taste in a positive light in two other sections of a review, then the bar has good to be good!  I know this is a bold statement, but this is not just one of the best tasting Supreme bars we’ve tasted, it’s one of the tastiest protein bars we’ve tasted.  Because this bar makes our top seven best-tasting protein bars list, please be very careful not to eat too many, okay?

Where Can I Buy Them?

Brick and mortar stores like GNC and the Vitamin Shoppe should carry these bars.  Being that Supreme has so many flavors, though, you never can tell which flavors a store will have in stock at any given moment.  Save yourself the headache, you can buy them online right here.

Special Notes

For those with peanut allergies, don’t even think about it!  This thing is so peanutty (is that a word?) that a sniff alone would probably send you to the hospital.
“Contains peanuts, soy, wheat, and milk, produced on equipment that also processes tree nuts (almonds) and eggs.”

The Final Say

Supreme’s Peanut Butter Pretzel Twist is an INCREDIBLY delicious bar that falls a bit flat in the nutrition profile department. A lip-smacking way to consume 30 grams of protein? Yes. A healthy way to consume it? Maybe in very limited moderation.

If we were just basing this review on taste, then this bar would easily get an A, but a protein bar is more than just how it tastes.
