What type of Protein do Oh Yeah Bars use?

Oh Yeah! bars employ a protein blend of whey protein isolate, milk protein concentrate, milk protein isolate, soy protein isolate, and Calcium Caseinate.

What We Like About Oh Yeah! Bars

Twenty-five grams of protein is a nice chunk to help you meet your daily protein requirements.

These bars are, surprisingly, cholesterol free. We like the texture. There are parts of the bar to sink your teeth into and other parts to chomp on. We aslo like that the bar is moist enough so you can enjoy it without gagging. You even get to have peanut butter candy pieces (almost like Reese’s Pieces)!

It’s quite strange to us that as sweet as this bar tastes and as delicious as it is, with only 8g o sugar and 8 grams of sugar alcohol, it’s not crazy high in sugar (when compared to competing bars). That’s a good thing.

What We Don’t Like

There are two major issues with the Oh Yeah! bar. The first issue is the protein, it’s kind of like a hodgepodge of different proteins: whey protein isolate, soy protein isolate, milk protein concentrate, calcium caseinate. This isn’t an incredibly big issue because it may help in delivering both slow and quick digesting proteins to your muscles. However, I kind of want to know how much of the 25 grams is made up of soy? milk? whey? calcium caseinate? For those who are really particular about your protein, this may be a bit of sticking point for you, too.

In classic OhYeah! fashion, this bar is rather high in fat (19g) and saturated fat (8.5). I thought the idea was to make lean muscle gains, not fat gains! As much as we want to say it’s all good fat, don’t worry about, we can’t…because we can’t find any unsaturated fats in the profile.

This bar also is high in carbs, even when you look at the number of net carbs (26 grams), it’s still a bit high. That’s an issue.

How much do Oh Yeah Protein Bars Cost?

At bodybuilding.com you’ll pay about $2.15 for an 85-gram bar or $23.00 for 12, 85g bars.

How do they taste?

We have to give credit where credit is due, the peanut butter-flavored bars taste fantastic, akin to a candy bar?

Taking a bite out of the PB Crunch OhYeah Bar

Maybe if a Three Musketeers Bar and a Whatchamacallit bar had a child that was addicted to protein…you’d get an Oh Yeah bar. Yes it’s a weird analogy, but hopefully you get the idea. We’re not going to say it’s THE number one for flavored bar here at BPBG (bestproteinbarsguide). We’ve got a lot more protein bar reviews to do first. Needless to say, though, it’s definitely up there. They’re tasty…period.  This bar is actually on our list of the top 7 best-tasting protein bars; that should tell you something.

Where Can I Get Them?

Every major fitness chain should carry these bars (i.e.-GNC). In addition, you can find them at bodybuilding.com, or even in the Amazon Marketplace.

Special Notes

Do you have nut/peanut allergies? Please keep in mind that these bars do care loaded with peanuts! Are you lactose intolerant? The bars ars also contain dairy-related products.

The Final Say

Despite us ripping this bar a new one in the “What We Don’t Like Section” we are just really picky about our bars! All in all, though, this bar would be better than your average bar.  It has it’s shortcomings, as all bars do, but it’s the perfect protein treat for a healthy balanced diet.
