What Type of Protein Do Come Ready  Bars Use?

The Come Ready bars use a protein blend that consists of whey protein isolate, milk protein concentrate, and whey protein concentrate.  In addition to this protein blend this bar uses a high protein chocolate coating, and a high protein peanut butter.

What We Like

The Come Ready bar is one that’s just come on our radar and the first bite was in a word…SHOCKING!  The taste of this bar is beyond impressive.  We tested two bars just to make sure it wasn’t just a quick sugar rush causing our taste buds to get overly stimulated.  But the taste of this bar is no fluke.  After eating just two of these Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel Bars, we have to place it in our top ten flavor rankings.  Yes, that’s a bold claim, but one we’re willing to back up.

Twenty-four grams of protein, doesn’t sound like a whole lot when compared to say a Detour Bar which can have as many as 30g in one bar.  But at the same time, when compared to a Quest or a Promax Bar (which generally have about 20g), this has a higher protein content.  This means that the Come Ready Bar, while not the highest in protein content, offers a solid, high-protein, middle ground: a great supplement to a workout or something to snack on during the day.

Five grams of fiber is another thing that we really like about this bar.  Why?  The main reason we like a bar that’s high in fiber is because it will be more filling (not to mention helping to keep you regular).

What We Don’t Like

There are two things about this Come Ready Bar that we don’t like. The first issue is the slightly high levels of saturated fat. While seven grams isn’t an extreme case of saturated fat, it’s still something to be aware of. You don’t want to gobble down bar after bar after bar if there’s saturated fat to be concerned about. There’s a total of 13 grams of fat in this bar, but it doesn’t say what the other six grams are…Is is unsaturated fat? Monounsaturated fat? It’s a bit of a mystery.

The other issue is probably the biggest one for us, and it’s sugar! Not sugar alcohol…pure sugar. This bar is definitely on the high side with 15g per bar. We’ve mentioned it in other reviews, but it’s worth mentioning again. If you’re trying to get ripped and muscular, your sugar levels should be as low as you can get them. The only exception to this rule might be if you’re eating this right after a workout, when an insulin spike won’t be as detrimental to your fitness goals.

How Much do Come Ready Bars Cost?

Over at, you will pay $2.23 for one large bar or just under $24.00 for a box of 12 large bars.

How do they taste?

As we’ve mentioned earlier, this bar simply kicks ass in the flavor department!  But why does it taste so good?  One of the things that Come Ready touts on the wrapper is “No Aftertaste” and they weren’t joking.  This is probably one of the mildest whey protein cores we’ve tasted from a “heavy duty” protein bar (20g of protein or higher).

The great thing about a smooth-tasting, whey core with no aftertaste the core doesn’t detract from the other flavors in the bar.

When you take your first bite, your teeth sink into a satisfying, lightly sweet, milk chocolate coating.  As you continue to bite there is the pretzel crunch on top and more of a cookie-sandy crunch on the bottom.  Top this off with rich, creamy caramel, high protein peanut butter, and the chewy protein core, and you end up with a bar that satisfies on so many levels.  This bar is a palate-pleasing salty and sweet with the perfect crunchy and chewy balance.

Where Can I Get Them?

There are several places to buy Come Ready bars. The brick and mortar places are the same as usual, probably Vitamin Shoppe or GNC. I think the best deals are online, though. You can just go here.

Special Notes

This bar contains peanuts, soy, wheat and milk. So please be careful if you have peanut allergies. This bar is probably not gluten-free either.

The Final Say

The Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel Bar by Come Ready Nutrition is a definite buy if you’re looking for a high-protein bar that tastes good. By no means is it a perfect bar (we haven’t come across a perfect bar yet), there are some nutritional drawbacks like higher sugar and fat content, but even considering that, it’s still one of the better bars out there. Give it a try and let us know what you think!

  1. I absolutely love them. They are a bit hard to find. What I don’t love is the high levels of sugar, carbs, sat fat. The taste and the amount of protein is perfect. My suggestion, make them smaller. Not quite in half though. Do this and I promise I will buy by the boxes. Best one I’ve tasted.

    • Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Donna!

I really like them, too. It’s crazy though, once you’ve tasted enough bars your tastes start to change. While the bar is still pretty good, I’ve tried some others as of late that have made me change my tune a slight bit.
